Pictures!

So, I realised today that I never blogged the November meeting. And I can't find the camera I took pictures on at that meeting. And, it's been over a week since the holiday party and I haven't blogged that either! I hereby blame Christmas for all my slacking! Anyway, I figured I better at least post some of the fun pictures from last week.

Don't we make some great faces? I wish I had taken more pictures of your beautiful faces and the beautiful things you made. I guess I was just too busy enjoying myself to remember to take pictures!

Our next meeting will be January 10th at the normal time (7pm) and the normal place (the Quilt Barn). We'll be trying out some new things for the new year. Be there or be square!

Holiday Party

Oh yeah, break out the jingle bells, it's almost time for our holiday party!

This Saturday night!!! Starting at 6 pm at the Quilt Barn. We'll have a potluck dinner. Email me if you need a reminder of what you signed up for. If you didn't sign up for anything- bring whatever you want.

We'll also have a gift exchange. If you'd like to participate, bring a 10$ gift. It can be storebought, handmade or straight from your stash.

We'll also have our regular meeting (bring show and tells) and late night sew (bring your machine and project to work on). Basically as much sewing related fun as is possible all crammed into one night. So, see you Saturday night!

10/11/12 Meeting Recap

Quilt Guild Rocks! Quilt Guild Rocks!

Ahem. Sorry just had to get that out of my system. On to business.

1. Guild dues are $15 dollars and due at the January meeting. Just so you know, last year's dues went towards wonderful things like the paper products we eat our snacks off of, batting and basting spray for the charity quilts, prizes and giveaways, printing the membership list, food for the Christmas party, etc.

2. Late Night Sew will be Saturday, October 20th at The Quilt Barn. We'll start at 7 and go until they kick us out. Bring your machine, your projects, a friend and maybe some snacks to share.

3. Next meeting is Thursday, November 8th. 7 pm at The Quilt Barn.

4. We briefly discussed our holiday party. It looks like it will be Saturday, December 8th at 7pm. We'll stick with the format of previous years. We'll have a brief meeting, a gift exchange, a potluck dinner and a late night sew. Crazy fun, I know. We'll have sign ups for the potluck and exchange names for the gift exchange at the November meeting.

5. Heather reviewed One Yard Wonders and Fabric by Fabric One Yard Wonders. Both looked chock full of fun projects. Tara showed off the super cute stuffed bear using one of the books. Unfortunately, I took the worst picture ever of it so you'll just have to trust me when I say it was super cute.

6.

Jenele demoed continuous prairie points for us and showed off a few projects using them. I'm determined to try it myself. The online tutorials she recommended can be found here, here and here.

7. Show and Tell-

Tara's feather quilt

Heather's Chicopee quilt (Can you feel the love for this fabric line?)

Mary's puzzle quilt

Mary's Flea Market Fancy quilt

8. We had our charity quilt wrapup and prize giveaway. WooHoo. Prizes were numerous and fantastic. I only have pictures of a few to share.

I made this fun little pincushion and gave it away with a bag of notions- flower head pins, a marking pen, tiny scissors, etc.

I made these fingerless gloves for Tara as a thank you for all the work she did- donating fabric, assembling kits, making quilts. She was definately the MVP of the charity quilt drive. I've since finished up the matching hat.

There were a ton of other goodies- fabric bundles, the quilting book KZ illustrated, a button bracelet, a zippered pouch filled with goodies. Thank you again to everyone who participated.

Meeting Reminder!

Hello ladies! I just wanted to remind you all about our meeting, this Thursday, October 11th. We'll meet at 7 pm at The Quilt Barn as usual. It should be an exciting meeting. We'll be wrapping up our charity quilt drive. There will be a drawing for prizes! If you helped at all, your name is in the drawing for one of four fabulous prize packages. Here's a little sneak peek-

Last night I dusted off my button box and jewelry making supplies and made this lovely button bracelet. Aren't you excited to see who wins it! And this is probably the least exciting of the prizes up for grabs. You do not need to be present to win, but it would certainly make things easier for me. And I might just be working on a little gift for everyone who participated. For that, you do need to be present to claim.

We'll also be swapping pouches. It's not too late if you'd like to participate. Just bring any size pouch with any type of closure and we'll trade.

I'm so excited to see you all there. Don't forget to bring something for show and tell!

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Thanks, ladies!

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our charity quilt drive. Especially thanks to Jenele, Tara and Mary who, along with me, came to the all-day sew on Saturday. We added several more completed quilts to the rather impressive stack. I think the amazing Tara turned it into a personal all-weeknd sew and has finished almost all of the quilt tops we had ready.

The bag of cookies is totally there just for a size reference. It has nothing to do at all with a midday face-stuffing. Nothing at all...

At our next meeting (Thursday, October 11th, 7 pm, The Quilt Barn) we'll ohhh and ahhh over all the finished quilts, draw some prizes for those who participated, and divide them up for delivery to local charities. It will be a great time and I hope to see everyone there!

All-Day Sew!

Just a quick reminder, our all-day sew is tomorrow! Saturday, September 29th. We'll start when The Quilt Barn opens at 10 and go at least until they close at 6. Bring your machine, your projects and some food to share. We'll be trying to finish up our stack of charity quilts. It should be a lot of fun. I hope to see everyone tomorrow!

Reminder

Remember, there is no late night sew tonight. We'll be having an all-day sew next Saturday instead. Hope to see everyone then!

September Meeting Recap

We had a fantastic meeting last night! Eleven were in attendance, including two new members. Welcome Sheri and Jolene!

Business-

1. We've decided to make dues due by January. Then they'll cover the entirety of 2013. So, $15 dollars due by the January meeting. At that point I'll make up a new membership list with everyone's name, phone number, email and blogs to hand out to everyone.

2. Don't miss the Magic Valley Quilt Walk September 21st and 22nd in lovely downtown Twin Falls. 10-6 on Friday and 10-4 on Saturday. There are t-shirts for sale for $15 at the Quilt Barn. Buying one gets your name entered into a drawing for some fabulous prizes.

3. Our charity quilt drive wraps up in October. By our meeting on October 11th, we want to have a big old pile of quilts to give to local charities. If you still have any unfinished tops or finished quilts please bring them to this meeting. Remember, we're going to have a prize drawing for all those who have participated.

4. And, in an effort to finish up those charity quilts and because it just sounds fun, our late night sew for September is going to be an all day sew instead. It'll be Saturday, September 29th. We'll start when the Quilt Barn opens at 10 and goes until at least 6. I plan on staying until Heather kicks me out! Come whenever you can for as long as you can. And don't feel like you have to donate your whole day to the charity quilts- bring your own projects. And your machine and some food to share. I am so excited. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.

5. At the October 11th meeting, we're also planning a pouch swap. If you'd like to participate, bring your finished pouch to the meeting and we'll trade.

Show and Tell-

Man, we had some lovely things to show off!

Amy's sort of Irish Chain Star thingy.

Heather's string star block.

The beautiful bag KZ made for her mother.

Candy's beautiful baby quilt.

Heather's Tula Pink Halloween table topper.

Peggy's beautiful (award winning) picture quilt. I really wish I had a better picture of it to show you. It's stunning.

Demos-

1.We're trying something new. I brought my favorite quilting book (Last
-Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson) along with some of the projects I've made from it. The blog I mentioned along with it is http://www.purlbee.com/. Check it out for hundreds of free sewing, quilting, embroidery, knitting and crochet projects. Heather's going to do a book or blog review for us next month.

2. Nikke did a demo on Improv piecing. I wish I took a picture because she stood on her chair to do. I have to admit, she got me excited to use up every last scrap.

Well, that's everything! I hope to see you all for at least a little while on Saturday the 29th for our all-day sew!

August Meeting Report

Date: August 9th, 2012

Members in Attendance: 7 (plus 2 adorable babies)

1. Show and Tell- Candy showed off two beautiful quilts, one of which I managed to get a picture of.

Remember the mystery quilt we worked on last year? This is her almost finished quilt. Didn't she do a fantastic job?

2. Birthdays-

3. Another year has come around, so dues are due. $15.00 for the year's membership which gets used for things like paper plates and cups for our snacks, batting for our charity quilts, shipping our quilts off to a charity, etc.

4. Speaking of charity quilts, I want to have everything wrapped up and done with by our October meeting. At that meeting, we'll have prize drawings for those who have participated and one last quilt tally. If you have any of the quilt kits, finished tops or finished quilts please bring them to that meeting. After that all finished quilts will be donated to a local charity- probably a foster kids organization. I'm looking for an organization that will except unfinished tops for any tops we don't manage to get turned into quilts. That being said, we still have time to turn those tops into finished quilts so they can help local kids. There's a big basket full of tops at the Quilt Barn. Most have backing and binding fabric to go with them. We have a huge roll of batting. They only thing they need to become finished quilts is a little bit of time. You can pick one up anytime from the Quilt Barn.

5. Our next swap will also be at the October meeting. Make a zippered or buttoned pouch or bag if you would like to participate. Here are some tutorials to get your creative juices flowing-

Easy Peasy Zippered Pouch

Emergency Zippered Pouch

Little Button Pouch Tutorial

Button Pouch With Inside Pocket

Just search and you will find more free tutorials than you could ever make.

6. Because of our summer scheduling problems, we're going to try something a little different for August sewing night. Sewing night will be Thursday, August 16th from 7 to 10. Bring your machine, your current projects and some snacks to share. It's my faborite night of the month and I'm hoping to see a lot of you there!

7. KZ officially passed her powers and binder on to me. So, I am the new quild president. I could always use help, though. Anyone want to volunteer for vice-president? Or any other job, really? Diane's going to remain Birthday Chair. I've declared Tara Quilt Barn Scheduling Liason. We could always use a Charity Project Chair or Official Swap Organizer. Basically, let me know what you would be interested in doing. Otherwise, this might become a dictatorship. Don't let the power go to my head! Email me at trinasdoings@gmail.com to volunteer, with any questions about anything or just to say hi.

Late Night Sew

Late night sew tonight has been cancelled. No one with keys to the Quilt Barn can be there. I'm going to try and talk to Heather and Tara and reschedule. Would a weeknight work better? Anyway, details on a new night will be coming soon.

July Meeting Report

Thursday, July 12th

Members in attendance: KZ, Tara, Jenele, Diane and Trina

Show and tells-

Tara's amazing skirt made from thrift store jeans and curtains.

Janele's dog quilt-

My girly squares in squares quilt-

Tara's fantastic use of a cheater print-

Pretty much, we rock.

Business (I hope I remember everything, I've misplaced my notes.)-

1. We still have charity quilts in need of finishing up.The tops are done. We have a big roll of batting. Quite a few have backing and binding ready to go. We just need volunteers to help quilt or tie them and bind them. Remember, once we have them all finished and donated, there will be a prize drawing for those who have participated. You can come pick one (or two or three) up from the Quilt Barn anytime.

2. After two years, our fearless leaders Tara and KZ have declared they are resigning. Thank you so much for all you have done starting the guild and keeping us going for two years. You are both amazing! They've nominated me to take over one of the leadership positions. I'm willing but will definitely need some help. Any volunteers? We need at least a president and vice-president but could also use a charity chair, an information officer, etc. Email me (trinasdoings@gmail.com) if you're interested.

3. We'll be starting a new long term swap. It will run from August to October. Details to come.

4. Sewing night will most likely be this Saturday, July 21st. It all depends on whether someone with keys to the Quilt Barn can be there. I'll send out an email to everyone and post it here and post it on Facebook just as soon as we know for sure.

5. Since Tara is resigning, I'm considering making the demonstrations for the meetings a group effort. Any volunteers? It can be anything from tips and tricks, how to assemble a favorite block, or a new technique. I'll be sending around a sign up sheet next meeting, so start thinking of ideas!
